Fantasia

Fantasia was a stray first seen by a horse rider, as the cat was drinking from a stream in St. Peter’s Valley. This is a very picturesque area, previously home to a small theme park: The Fantastic Tropical Gardens; hence his name, Fantasia. The rider was concerned that his fur was very matted and had bits of leaves and undergrowth in it. She posted the picture on one of the cat lovers pages on Facebook and our main trapper, Carole, took a trap around to catch him. Assisted by a neighbour, who placed the trap in her garden under surveillance, Fantasia was quickly trapped.

Carole brought him back the branch and we desperately hoped he had a microchip as there are quite a few long-haired black cats missing. Sadly, no microchip was detected. The next day he went into the vet to be shaved. We advertised him as a found cat and two owners came to see him, but he was not their cat. The second owner was in a quandary as although his cat had been microchipped it was with one of a faulty batch from about 10 years ago, so there was a chance that it could be him. He asked his vet to take an X-ray to see if there was a microchip, but sadly there wasn’t and no one else came forward to claim Fantasia.

Now microchipped, he will stay with us until he has put on weight, and will be blood tested again, as he has been drinking quite a bit of water. Once we are sure he is healthy, we will find him a perfect home.

We often wonder when these old, friendly cats are found if they belonged to older people who have passed away. Always worth making sure you have a ‘Pet Pal’ who will ensure your cat gets taken to a rescue for rehoming.
